Gamemas – Day 12 – The Last Day

Well, here we are. The very last day of Gamemas. Kind sad, isn’t it. We here at the Infinite Ammo hope that you’ve enjoyed out little sojourn down memory (card) lane. What would you like to see next year? More games? Longer explanations? Should we change the name to “Gamesmas”?

Wait, what’s that you say? We should talk about that stuff AFTER the last post? Fine. Here we go, Pushy.

“On the twelfth day of Gamemas, The Infinite Ammo had me play…”

FINAL FANTASY XII!

Now there’s a blast from the not-so-distant-past, eh?

Yeah, I bet you knew this game was coming. After all, there’s only a few game series that have 12 entries, and the FF series is most prominent.

And yes, before you comment anything, I know we covered FFXI yesterday. They’re different, okay? One’s an MMORPG, the other one is single player.

So! Final Fantasy XII! Not an MMORPG, but more like an MSPORPG– a Massively Singleplayer Offline Role-Playing Game, if you will. And what a massively singleplayer offline role-playing game it is. Easily the best FF of the PS2 generation, and arguably as good as the best of the PS1 FFs, FFXII is a sight to behold.

The story is excellent. The graphics, while lacking, are awesome for a PS2 game. The gameplay is both reminiscent of FFs of old, as well as something new. The new battle system, plus the “Gambits” system are phenomenal and make the whole game more MMORPG-like. Did I mention that the story is excellent? It’s a mature, epic storyline, and shows just how far storytelling has come in the Final Fantasy series.

Sadly, FFXII is the last of the Sony-machine Final Fantasies. With the advent of Final Fantasy XIII, Square-Enix has moved to adopt a multi-platform stance. Sometime in 2009/10, you’ll be able to get your FFXIII on on the 360 and PS3 as well as FF Agito XIII on the PSP, and FF Versus XIII on the PS3. But, that’s a subject for another post.

We here at The Infinite Ammo wish you and yours a very merry Christmas, the happiest of holidays, and a wonderful Gamemas. Gamesmas? Whatever. We’re still kinda unsure about the name. Hope you enjoyed it! Keep on truckin’, and keep on readin’ The Infinite Ammo for your daily dose of sarcasm, gaming news, and humor! There’s lots of new things coming in the new year, so stay tuned!
