Heck, slow news week. But it’s Christmas, so you know how it goes.
I broke away from the family festivities today to let you all in on a little secret: one of the best, if not the best game on the DS.
The World Ends With You.
“But Infinite Ammo,” you say. “I knew how good this game was months ago! You can’t tell me that you’re just finding out now?”
Well, no, kind readers, I’m not. I knew this game was great from the day I picked it up. What turned me off from playing it all those months ago was the quite lengthy pre-game:
Virtually your first hour of the game is teaching you how to play it. Which, I will admit, does come in handy in, y’know, playing the game. But I still maintain that there should be an easier way that what amounts to an hour-long tutorial. Call it part of the game all you want: when the characters interrupt the game constantly to tell me this and that about what to do gameplay-wise, it’s a tutorial.
However, I decided that on the lengthy car drive to visit the family this year, that I would force myself past the first hour and really get into the meat of this supposed “great game”.
I choked the hour down, and to my delight and wonderment I discovered an amazing game. Now, I haven’t completed the game yet, but in all honesty, this game might end up rivals for my affection as “greatest RPG of all time” with the PlayStation’s Chrono Cross.
I’ll probably do a more in-depth write-up once I’ve finished the game–maybe do the first The Infinite Ammo Retroview, I dunno.
But for now, I can safely say, GET THE WORLD ENDS WITH YOU for your DS. Your DS will thank you.
…so will Square-Enix.
Merry Christmas, everybody!
